about

Dainty Davie is an old strathspey from the Athole collection. This tune has been used for several texts, the best known of which are by Robert Burns.
Elmo Lives Downstairs and The Balnain Reel were composed by my harp teacher Corrina Hewat.
Elmo from the tune ‘Elmo lives Downstairs’ was a small dog at Corrina’s neighbor’s house. He was barking at 4 o’clock in the morning. As she could not sleep because of his noise, she decided to play the harp to accompany his bark.
The rhythm of the bark was combination of 6/8 and 9/8 then this tune was made.
She recorded this tune with a Northumbrian piper, Kathryn Tickell for the album “The sky Didn’t Fall”.
The Balnain reel refers to Balnain House in Inverness where Corrina’s mother had a beautiful place for art and music. Corrina taught harp there and raising many opportunities to become more aware of the harp and highland music.
